When you add a payment method, you may be required to verify it with a verification code. This process helps Google Wallet and your bank protect your account. Depending on your bank, you can choose from several options to receive this code. Please note that the verification code is issued by your bank, not by Google Wallet.
Tip: To ensure you receive the code, verify that your bank has your current phone number and email address on file.
How you can verifyImportant: Some methods may not be available in your country or region.
There are several options to verify your payment method. Choose the one that you’d like to use. After you get your code, enter it in the Google Wallet app. If the code doesn’t work or there’s nowhere to enter it, check below for how to fix common problems.
By email or text
When you verify this way, your bank sends a verification code within a few minutes. If you don't receive one, tap Get another email or Get another text. If you continue to have issues, contact your bank.
By phone
You can call your bank directly to get a verification code. For some banks, you can request a call through Google Wallet.
By bank app or bank website
- At the bottom of the “Choose how you’ll verify” screen, tap More options.
- Select Sign in to bank app or Sign in to bank website.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in to the app or website of your bank.
Tip: If you don't have the bank app and you choose this option, you might be asked to install it and then come back to Google Wallet.
By bank statement (temporary charge)
- At the bottom of the “Choose how you’ll verify” screen, tap More options.
- Select Send an authorization code to your bank statement.
- Your bank will post a small, temporary authorization charge to your account that includes a verification code in the transaction description line (for example,
BANK*123456).- Tip: This temporary charge may take a few minutes up to 30 minutes to appear on your bank statement or mobile banking app. It is a temporary hold, not a permanent fee, and will be reversed automatically.
- In the Google Wallet app, enter the verification code.
Didn't receive a code
- Make sure that you selected the right phone number, email address, app, or bank account for your verification method. It should match the info that your bank has for you.
- Check that your device has a signal.
- If you chose Email or SMS verification, check your spam, junk, or blocked messages folders to ensure the code was not filtered.
- Request a new code. Based on the verification method you chose, tap:
- Get another email
- Get another text
- Get another phone call
- If you still don't receive your code, choose a different verification method and try again.
- If these methods don't work, call your bank to verify your contact information on file.
Code doesn't work
- Check that you’ve entered the correct code.
- Request a new code. Based on the verification method you chose, tap:
- Get another email
- Get another text
- Get another phone call
- Choose a different verification method and try again.
- If your code still doesn't work, call your bank.
