I cannot get over what this web browser has shown me. Every time I use it I have to click on the top left of the search bar to see the list of which left wing based companies were trying to track my movements and searches online. Still amazes me how invasive we’ve let these people and these companies become. Like a bunch of frogs in ever-warming water... how soon before that water becomes boiling? How many more liberties will we allow them to take before we wake up and realize we have a right to our privacy and our freedom? I just wonder how long it will be before someone tries to shut this app down for not giving in to the invasive and manipulative agenda the other web browsers all exhibit. I’m sure monitoring our online presence is just the beginning. I fully expect their “cancel culture” to hit this area next. Media and online manipulation are their weapons of choice at the moment and if we have the opportunity to start to “pull back the curtains” to actually see that manipulation (like this app does so beautifully) we are risking being woken up to the reality that we’ve allowed ourselves to be manipulated up until now. Wake up America! This isn’t about Trump. It’s not about Republicans. This is about your freedom and mine. I took back a little off the freedom of privacy when I downloaded this app. I dare you to do the same. Now how long do you think it will be before some cancel-culture manipulator tries to remove this comment because they don’t agree with it and/or they don’t want y’all to know the truth?

  • Why I love DDG.

    Imdno

Well lets start with the obvious, shall we? (Almost) Anytime we use a “free” software/app product that requires we sign in or register with an email… guess what? It is the opposite of free. Why? I’ll tell you, its because at that moment, the one where is says EULA … yeah that is the moment you become the PRODUCT! Fact. They offer free distraction while the real purpose driven monster that is any given alphabet of phoney balony dev or corpo giant is actively, legaly and silently stealing every bit of info about you, and your families conversations. Every single one of your kinks winks and nods, including who what where and why you do everystuff! And that little login reg thing with the EULA said you dont mind. The only alternative would be to charge you $900 for that toon blast or candy crush distraction that gets you through those lame office meetings….only thing is to them its not lame its dollar signs baby. Sooo, the reason i love DDG is simple… they keep it real. They are not pure and innocent, they are honest. “ please watch an add so we dont have to steal your privacy to make money. Period. Its the best you are gonna get. And honestly get it while it lasts bc they are the minority, and soon enough the monster will eat them too and we all be part of the alphabet soup. I promise. Pretty simple, and 100% legit. I know bc im writing this from inside the belly of the beast.

  • LOVE THIS APP!!! Wish there was an option for screen time limits

    xfrogiexx

I love love love this browser, it is safe and simple, and I love it more than the browser I used to use, which was safari 😒 loll. I don’t have much to say to hype it up bc I have a specific reason for this review, and it is to request more options for screen time limits. On an iPhone, screen time limits are automatically put on EVERY website on safari, which is annoying if you need to research for school or look something up. With duckduckgo, it doesn’t do that, which is one reason I switched. BUT, I am young and deal with a phone addiction like other teens usually do, and I wish you could choose specific sites to limit on duckduckgo. This is my idea:In the menu, go to settings and click “screen time limits”, it’ll show you a simple set up menu where you can manually type in the specific websites you would like to limit and how long you have screen time on them. You do not have limits automatically on EVERY website, but only the ones you choose!! Or you can choose to do limits for every website, or make everything automatically have limits and choose what websites to allow. I feel like if that idea was implemented, it could help a lot of teens who need a better relationship with their phones but also need access to the web for school research. I have screen time limits until 12 PM (I requested it bc it helps with productivity), so if I have last minute homework to do that morning, I need to be able to reach a site to get it done and not have to send 12 billion requests for each individual site and annoy my parents and myself. Anyway, PLEASE look into this, I know I’m not the only one wanting a feature like this! Love the app, just not great for those struggling with their screen time :)

  • Still needs work

    StanleyB95

I’ve been using DuckDuckGo for around a decade and I think it’s a huge improvement over Google, but the browser and search engine still need work. First of all, DuckDuckGo stores your search history and loads all kinds of third party trackers, despite claiming not to. On multiple occasions I have seen previous searches and results from months ago randomly show up (either as suggestions or full searches) when I open browser. You can see the list of third party trackers that are loaded by clicking on the shield icon, and while I appreciate the transparency, its infuriating to see that they still regularly load trackers from Google ads and others. I feel that this is false advertising—our privacy is not being protected if they’re loading Google trackers, but they claim that it is. Second, the search results are still mixed and not always all that accurate. This has been an issue from the beginning—I always resort to google when I need precision. Finally, why is there no stop button on the browser? If a link is taking forever to load (which it often does), I need to be able to press stop and try a different link. Or if I clicked a link by mistake, I need to be able to stop it from loading and resume what I was doing. Honestly, I can deal with all of the above issues, but the lack of a stop button is a serious problem for me. Every browser needs a stop button; it’s been a bare minimum basic browser feature since the 90s. I really hope DuckDuckGo will consider adding one. Thank you.

    Developer Response

To be clear, DuckDuckGo never collects/stores your search history. This is the first thing in our privacy policy (https://duckduckgo.com/privacy).The DuckDuckGo app may store some history data on your device (and ONLY on your device). This data is only accessible to the user of the app, not to DuckDuckGo. We put the Fire Button front and center to make sure it's easy for people to delete data from their device whenever they want.

  • Why is Google now performing my searches and not DuckDuckGo?

    mistek322

Updated Review as of March 12, 2025Additional rating as of today March 12, 2025Well again this is the 3rd time this week I have to update the app! Frustrating that I have to do it every time I have to go online!!! Why is my DuckDuckGo Privacy Pro allowing all of my search queries to be completed through Google instead of DuckDuckGo? I would really appreciate any responses to this along with a fix to this!Looking at my battery usage trying to understand why I have to charge iPhone everyday lately and this is why, over the last 10 days DuckDuckGo shows 10 hrs 20 min online use and 63 hrs 12 min of background use which is 33% of total use. This shouldn't be happening since I have turned off all Background Activities! Plus the apps version keeps getting reduced to a lower version, I have to keep going to the App Store and update it every time I want to go online which is daily. I keep sending feedbacks on many issues but they never respond nor fix them. Google keeps getting past their privacy blocks along with many others and they don't work on that either. Somehow there's another device that it's backing up to that's not mine nor can I stop it because I don't have apin. Well that's because I never set it up as I don't have another device! I have reported this as well with no response! I even paid for the Privacy Pro and now it's out of control!

  • Review by a 45 year Programmer

    forgodsgdpurpose

Unfortunately they will never catch Google, which makes me sad as a ten year user. USA User and Programmer. First problem is being out of the UK, trying to compete in the US Market. Not even remotely close. Come on guys, I WANT you to succeed!Honestly you will have to employ far smarter Engineers and Programmers/Coders. Scale 1–10 against Google who I hate and refuse to use? You’re a 1/One. Have to do better guys if you desire to compete in the US Market. If it’s a cost thing, which it always is, consider outsourcing to dark web coders/programmers. Tho known for dishonesty, they will at the very least, get you all up to American 2024 standards. I had to search ten times for the true owner on a HORSE in an American TV series. I never got to the true owner. That should speak volumes to you Engineers. You simply must do waay better. I want you to succeed. We HATE GOOGLE/Bezos! But to be the best in America requires a reality check on how you compete against the known best. Sadly, you’re sorely lacking. Come on UK Engineer’s! I am rooting for you. And have given you TEN years of my valuable time using only Duckduckgo. You MUST CATCH UP guys ok? Love and truths from America…smile. Get a Venture Capitalist for goodness sakes. I really want you to WIN!!

I am telling the world that just because I live in America ....I realize that those living in countries with NO democracy is subjected to such instructiveness!!! I feel the heavyweight of your reality when in 2016 I began getting stalked on the web!!!! To think in my “FREE WORLD known as America this violations occurs and TRUST me EVERY day I am truly grateful for DuckDuckGo and the ,genuine concern, & dedication given to people such as myself...... a complete stranger I (WE) am To these people !!!! Such kindness & selfishness shown by this company’s employees (founders, owners, volunteers etc) has restored my faith in humanity as y’all can imagine how hackers, stalkers, SALTY DEA agents, egotistical authorities, malicious organizations, jealous exes along with alll those sick minded haters trying to sabatoge their victims via the WORLD WIDE WEB can CRITICALLY STRIP YOUR trusted MECHANISM’S ALONG WITH YOUR ACCOUNT’S (aol,fb,Instagram etc) and ..... well you get the picture of how much I appreciate this DuckDuckGo company!!!!!! I haven’t used Google in 6 years and I tell everyone constantly about the Duck!!! Thanks for allowing me to rant and rave!!! I’m not sure how your able to provide free Duck to the world that struggles not only from grim governments but financially as well BUT if you hadn’t???!!? You rock DuckDuckGo!!!!! Stay safe gang!! God’s Blessing’s , Kim S

  • I missed this type of search engine!

    Gwen391

It seems like the privacy concerns are the main reason people switch to DuckDuckGo, and that was certainly a factor for me—but honestly, the user experience has fully blown me away. This is what it used to be like to google things—I actually get a list of websites relevant to my search! I just googled something about panda conservation and instead of getting an AI overview followed by three AI generated summary sites with adds interspersed between paragraphs followed by several angry Reddit threads, I got things from NCBI, institute for environmental research and education, and the Smithsonian—with summaries written by humans with linked sources. Incredible. Other small things that are also cited as “cons” of switching have made my life better. Predictive text isn’t as good, so I have to want to search something badly enough to type it out, and the app opens ever so slight slower (the DuckDuckGo logo briefly appears). Both of these small things help me avoid getting sucked into a misery hole on my phone. It’s just overall a much better experience. I’ve gotten some real-life people to switch over, too! Thank you to the devs at DuckDuckGo!!!

Love the app except there’s some settings I don’t understand like the photos part of it. Can I store and or share photos there? Whitelist? What is it? Also I can’t share any of my info from searches to my Facebook page like I wish I could. And I like to use regular maps a lot and I don’t like their maps section for finding places I’m looking for that I read about but it does have lots of great information I enjoy about the countries. So far the search info is great considering it’s a safe search so they say?! I hate all the controversy and crime surrounding hatching, disinformation and theft on the web so I’m hoping they are honest as they say. Recently I’ve heard so much bad stuff about Google being even evil. But they have always actually been almost personable with me by helping me almost interactively when I can’t figure stuff out on my crumby devices. Facebook Zuckerberg has always let Facebook run on autopilot from day one. Nothing works on settings on Facebook and it never has!!!! You could never fix that site now! Zuckerberg is a freak and lord only knows what he’s up to? He’s totally illegitimate in every way. But it’s to late for me to fear those two...they already both know more data about me than I know about myself. I’m going to try here again to see if I can get off Google tho. Really don’t know what’s good for myself but I did learn something from you folks. Thanks! Keep up the good work Duck. You should hook up with that other site I was on for a while, can’t think of the name but they plant trees for each search you make. Ohhh also!!! I love the no dang ad every 2 inches while you dodge and try to read! Thanks for hardly no ads except when u can’t help it!

  • My purest opinion

    JustClipTvYtb

I've been using the DuckDuckGo browser for a few weeks now, and overall, it's a refreshing change from more mainstream options. The biggest draw for me is privacy — it blocks trackers by default, upgrades sites to HTTPS when possible, and doesn’t build a profile on you. I also appreciate the minimalist design; it's clean, fast to navigate, and doesn't feel cluttered. The "Fire" button is a nice touch — with one tap, I can erase all tabs and browsing data. The new AI-assisted search is a decent addition. It's not as powerful as ChatGPT or Google's Gemini, but it’s privacy-focused and often includes source links, which is helpful. I like that I can disable it entirely if I want a traditional search experience. However, there are a few drawbacks: the browser can lag slightly on heavier sites, and I miss the ability to install extensions — no ad blockers or password managers like I use on Firefox or Chrome.Overall, I’d recommend it to anyone who values privacy and a no-frills browsing experience. It’s not perfect, but it's a solid alternative for everyday browsing, especially on mobile.
